BBC Visit

Hello All-

This sadly will be my last blog post to share with you from London. As you know, over the past few weeks my classmates and I have had the chance to visit different professionals in the media industry.

On Monday July 14th, we had the great pleasure to meet with Kevin Blacoe at the BBC Broadcasting House in London. He has worked in the media industry for almost nine years, spending six of those years working at the BBC. Currently he works as a Senior Adviser for BBC Learning. Surprisingly, Mr. Blacoe spent a year abroad in the United States studying at Temple University in 2001.

After meeting with Mr. Blacoe, we had the chance to go on an official tour of the BBC. Our two lively tour guides, invited us to see the behind the scenes work that goes on every day at this vast company.

The BBC, or British Broadcasting Corporation, is a British company that provides public service broadcasting all throughout the United Kingdom. This is similar to what Americans know as PBS, because they share similar missions by serving the community. The BBC provides News, Radio, Television, and Online services for their local communities.

I’d like to end by thanking everyone who kept up with reading all of my blog posts these past few weeks. It means a lot to me to be able to share my journeys abroad with you all. In addition, I’d also like to thank my Professor, Sherri Culver, for working with Temple University to create this special three week program. Because of her hard work, we were able to attend this year’s Children’s Media Conference, which was a great eye opening experience. It would be great to see this opportunity available in the future for other students studying at Temple.

I hope you all enjoyed reading about my different adventures as much as I did experiencing them. I’m walking away from these past three weeks with new friends, memories, and a hopeful look on my future career in the media industry.

Cheers,

Christine xx
