Episode 21: Educational Apps

Mar 15, 2016

Searching for an age-appropriate educational app can be daunting.  There are literally over a million apps in the app store. How is one supposed to sift through those thousands to find the small handful that are based on sound educational theory and practice? The lack of any formal educational “proof” means the app store is, at best, just an open space for knowledge, or, at worst, fraud. On this episode of Media Inside Out, host Sherri Hope Culver speaks with Anna Ly from Sesame Workshop about educational apps and Anna’s recent publication “Getting a read on the app stores: a market scan and analysis of children’s literacy apps” co-authored with Sarah Vaala and Michael H. Levine.

Guest:

Anna Ly, Senior Manager of Programming and Operations for Sesame Workshop.
