# International Media Literacy Week

The event originated in Canada and is now celebrated internationally, intending to promote media literacy as a key educational component for youth around the globe.  The focus theme for this years' Media Literacy Week will be, ["***What's Being Sold: Helping Kids to Make Sense of Marketing Messages."***](https://www.medialiteracyweek.ca/en/about_overview.htm) The week will be tailored toward educators and parents, providing tools needed to teach children and teens about the marketing they consume on a daily basis. Events being held in the United States this year include a Google Hangout hosted by NAMLE [NAMLE (National Association For Media Literacy Education)](https://namle.net/), and the CMIL will be holding a Media Smart Seminar.
