Thursday, November 13 at 5:00–6:30 p.m. EST

Presenting at the 2025 National Media and Information Literacy Conference

If you’ve ever tried negotiating screen time with a child or teenager, you know it’s basically an extreme sport. Media, games… technology doesn’t just live in our homes—it practically runs the place! But what if, instead of just fighting the screens, we learned to live smarter with them?

That’s exactly the idea behind the upcoming webinar “Children, Youth and Technology: Navigating Challenges in a Hyperconnected World,” happening Thursday, November 13 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. EST. Hosted by Lumiar Comunidade School in Brazil, this 1-hour guided dialogue followed by a 15-minute Q&A will feature Sherri Hope Culver, Director of the Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University, and Alexandre Le Voci Sayad, journalist, educator, and UNESCO consultant.

Alexandre Le Voci Sayad

Alexandre Le Voci Sayad is a journalist, educator, and writer who directs ZeitGeist, an innovation hub in education, culture, and media that develops global projects for companies, governments, and the education sector. He also serves as a media literacy consultant for UNESCO in Paris and Montevideo and is actively involved with several international organizations, including DCN Global, the International Council for Media Literacy (IC4MIL), and the scientific council of Comunicar (University of Huelva, Spain). On television, Sayad hosts the program Idade Mídia on Canal Futura and writes for Education Magazine. He has authored more than twenty books on education, technology, and communication, including his most recent, Artificial Intelligence and Critical Thinking (2023).

Sherri Hope Culver

Sherri Hope Culver serves as Director of the Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University where she is a Professor of Instruction in Klein College of Media and Communication and directs the Certificate in Children’s Media. She served as vice-chair of the UNESCO-led Global Media and Information Literacy Alliance and regularly presents internationally on media literacy and children’s media topics. Sherri was a key advisor on the PBS Kids Guiding Framework on Media Literacy. She recently published “The Quality Question: Why Children’s Media Must Aim High”. Sherri produces and hosts the podcast Kids Talk Media. She was a Fulbright Global Scholar for 2022-2023 conducting research on children’s media and media literacy globally.

Instead of the classic “Turn that phone off right now!”, Sherri and Alexandre will explore real solutions: media literacy, dialogue, autonomy, and shared responsibility. Expect a light, funny, and practical conversation designed especially for parents, caregivers, and educators who want to help young people build healthier, more balanced relationships with technology.
