Ep. 60 – Headlines as Clickbait

Sep 15, 2022

Perhaps one of the most influential spaces in which words matter is in the news we consume.  Whether you consume your news through a social media app such as TikTok or Twitter, or on a news podcast, or the website of a traditional news outlet like the New York Times or NBC News, or with an actual newspaper in hand, words are selected, edited, and discussed by the journalists writing the news for maximum impact. Especially the headlines. In a media environment constantly aiming for your attention, the headline of a news story holds tremendous weight. It can turn you towards an issue, or turn you away. This episode of Media Inside Out discusses how those few selected words that appear in a headline influence what you read and what you think about what you read. Let’s go inside.
