Sep 10, 2026

The 2026 Global Media and Information Literacy Week is an annual event, held through the last week of October. MIL week brings together members of various communities around the world to recognize the importance of media and information literacy and explores innovative ways to strengthen the cause globally.

UNESCO and partners around the world come together to host events in various cities with a Member State to share recent projects and discoveries relating to media and information literacy (MIL).

2026 Global MIL Week Theme: We All Play A Part

This year the Global Media and Information Literacy Week’s theme will be “We All Play a Part- Media and Information Literacy for the People”. The theme emphasizes the importance of  recognizing media and information literacy (MIL) as a shared responsibility that calls on all sectors of society to participate. UNESCO’s mission is to enhance public interest, awareness, and cooperation to illuminate the possibilities for media and information literacy through collective action.

In recent years members of the public around the world have participated in Global MIL Week events and sessions where media professionals, educators, and media researchers shared the latest discoveries, initiatives, and projects shaping the field of media and information literacy. These events provide the opportunity for communities to learn more about how MIL can help people to better understand and engage with the information they encounter everyday. The 2026 Global MIL week will feature six flagship events along with numerous other collaborations set to occur around the world. These events will bring people from different communities together to explore the role each person can play in cultivating a more media literate society.
