The CMIL has been named as a Global Chair in Media and Information Literacy in a collaboration between the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the University Twinning and Networking program (UNITWIN). The initiative is developing research, education, and collaborative initiatives with eight international partner universities, including University Autonomous Barcelona (Spain), University of the West Indies (Jamaica), Cairo University (Egypt), Sid Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (Morocco), Tsinghua University (China), and Queensland University of Technology (Australia).
